College basketball coach pleads not guilty in punch that killed tourist

Wake assistant coach Jamill Jones allegedly punched Boca Raton, Fla. resident Sabor Szabo in the head Sunday morning, according to a report from the New York Post.

Police arrested Jones, of Kernerville, North Carolina, on Thursday and charged him with third-degree assault.

Szabo, 35, reportedly was in NY for the wedding of his stepsister when he made a mistake that cost him his life.

Jamill Jones, 35, confronted Sandor Szabo, 35, for banging on cars at about 1:15 a.m. near 41-10 29th Street in Long Island City, the New York Post reported, citing sources. It has yet to be determined whether his punch caused Szabo's death. Szabo fell and hit his head hit the pavement, losing consciousness, authorities said. The family believes he was knocking on auto windows to check on his ride when he knocked on the suspect's window.

A witness told Associated Press Mr Szabo may have been intoxicated and knocked on a number of auto windows before Jones allegedly hit him.

Police said the suspect left the scene in a white SUV.

"The court made the proper ruling with the charges, and the District Attorney's office made the proper ruling with the charges", the lawyer, Alain Massena, said.

In a statement, Wake Forest said the school would comment further once it gathered more information. The Philadelphia native graduated from Arkansas Tech in 2008.

Jones is entering his second year on Demon Deacons' coach Danny Manning's staff.

Szabo, also 35, was "super outgoing, friendly, and an incredibly smart businessman", said his company, at What If Media Group, based in Fort Lee, New Jersey. His family says he was visiting NY from Boca Raton, Florida, for a wedding.
