Cleveland Browns: Preseason Week 1 instant reactions

The first preseason game for the Cleveland Browns is winding to a close. That side of the debate could claim vindication after 2017 third-round pick Davis Webb completed 9-of-22 passes for 70 yards in a dismal performance.

The Browns have said they would consider trying to get Dez Bryant but got the impression that Bryant doesn't want to play for the Browns, according to ESPN.

5 - Tyrod Taylor was 5-for-5 for 99 yards and the aforementioned touchdown to Njoku before exiting. The drive displayed Tyrod's efficient passing, his ability to communicate with the inexperienced crew around him, and that he's capable of leading this offense.

Mayfield was up next and, following a three-and-out, settled in on his second series, finding Rashard Higgins with a pretty back-shoulder throw on the sideline for a 26-yard gain.

Second-year tight end David Njoku caught two first-quarter touchdown passes - one from each quarterback. Barkley ripped off a 39-yard run on his first National Football League touch that began with a nasty Barry Sanders-esque jump cut in the backfield.

One of Baker's favorite targets throughout the night was fellow rookie Antonio Callaway. Baker Mayfield finished the night 11-20 for 212 yards, 2 touchdowns, 125.4 passer rating. He also exited the game as the Browns' leading rusher, with 13 yards on 3 carries.

Left guard Will Hernandez, the Giants' second-round pick after Barkley, delivered the nastiness and aggressiveness that was missing up front last season. If the Giants can begin opening up running lanes between the tackles, it will be a long season for opposing defenses.
