Cam Newton, Kelvin Benjamin speak prior to preseason game

Kelvin Benjamin and Cam Newton met up publicly and talked ahead of the Bills and Panthers preseason game Thursday.

First the video. Then the responses, which weren't very kind to the Buffalo star, in general, although Benjamin scored a first quarter touchdown and jumped into the stands to celebrate.

After Benjamin's comments were published, McDermott expressed disapproval, saying Sunday (via ESPN), "There's a time and a place - I'm not saying specific to what comments were made - there's a time and place for things like that".

"If you would've put me with any other QB, let's be real, you know what I'm saying?"

According to The Charlotte Observer's Jourdan Rodrigue, there was no smiling involved and Benjamin "shrugged [Newton] off mid-sentence" and started to walk away. Nothing to see here, just a few position battles. When Benjamin left Newton hanging, Newton asked for privacy and had an apparent argument with his former teammate. We have a lot of respect for our opponents, No. 1, and everyone in the league. That is because the Carolina Panthers, like most teams, are likely to limit the amount of playing time for their starters to only a series or two in hopes of avoiding possible injuries to key players.

While Benjamin clearly didn't want to talk about the situation, Newton didn't either, literally.
