Elon Musk calls Thailand cave rescuer a 'pedo guy'

A British diver who helped to rescue 12 young boys and their football coach from a cave in Thailand is considering whether to sue Elon Musk after the tech entrepreneur wrote offensive comments about him on Twitter.

Rattled investors sent Tesla shares tumbling 3% on Monday, extending a losing streak for a company that was only weeks ago America's most valuable automaker, worth more than General Motors. Probably the answer in some cases is yes, I should say nothing.

Unsworth was among the first to respond when authorities in northern Thailand asked for help on a massive search and rescue operation for a youth soccer team and their assistant coach trapped inside a cave by rising floodwaters on June 23.

Elon Musk is taking heat for controversial comments he made against a diver who assisted in the Thai cave rescue.

Musk gave no evidence for alleging Unsworth was a pedophile. At one point he even told CNN that Musk's idea "had absolutely no chance of working".

Unsworth said he would talk to lawyers about a possible lawsuit against Musk upon returning to Britain. "I believe he's called me a paedophile", he told journalists. "I think people realise what sort of guy [Musk] is".

Tesla CEO Musk launched the extraordinary tirade against Vernon Unsworth without providing any justification or explanation, after the cave expert slammed his offer of a miniature submarine to extract the footballers from the Tham Luang cave as a "PR stunt".

Today, the diver - who was an instrumental part of the rescue efforts - told reporters he is considering legal action against Mr Musk.

If you're already acquainted with Musk and his weird entanglement with the Thai cave story, you may skip to the end of this report for a fuller accounting of his baseless pedophilia accusations.

The craft was never used and the tweets have since been deleted. "Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it".

Over the weekend Musk also fended off reports that he had donated to a political action committee devoted to maintaining Republican control of Congress, saying on Twitter that he routinely donated to both political parties.

Engineers from SpaceX, Musk's rocket company, has been training members of the Thai Navy to use the mini-submarine.

As for Musk's submarine?

When a Twitter user pointed out that Musk was "calling the guy who found the children a pedo", the billionaire responded: "Bet ya a signed dollar it's true". By Unsworth's assessment, the proposal was merely a hollow "publicity stunt".
