Shaqiri having medical ahead of £13m Liverpool move

Liverpool activated Shaqiri's release clause after Stoke's relegation and Klopp explained why he could not pass up the chance to bring the Switzerland to the club.

For Jürgen Klopp, another World Cup global is added to his squad, 26-year-old Shaqiri moving to Anfield to compete with the renowned attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané.

Stoke City pocketed a £13million transfer fee for the sale and Shaqiri becomes Liverpool's third summer signing.

At the World Cup, Shaqiri scored a 90th-minute victor to give Switzerland a 2-1 victory over Serbia in the group stage last month.

In June, he was reported as saying he wanted to leave Stoke and sign for a Premier League club.

Shaqiri won the Champions League during his time at Bayern, while he collected a trio of Swiss Super League crowns at Basel, and the midfielder is targeting more titles having switched to Anfield to play under Jurgen Klopp.

"I'm very happy for him that he had this handsome season because he is a very nice guy, a good guy".

"As a player you always want to be on the biggest stage in football. So I'm really glad and happy to be here", Shaqiri told I'm happy that I see him here. "When someone like him becomes available in this way you have to react if you are smart - and we have". "To play for us these are mandatory requirements". He was easily their best player and also put in impressive displays as Switzerland reached the round of 16 in the World Cup.
