Isaiah Thomas Inks Deal With Denver Nuggets

The 29-year-old point guard agreed to a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum with the Denver Nuggets Thursday night, a league source confirmed.

According to Wojnarowski, Thomas recently got together with Nuggets coach Michael Malone and president of basketball operations Tim Connelly in Las Vegas to discuss his potential place in the club's plans.

As we know, Boston then traded Thomas to the Cavs that Summer as part of the Irving deal. After impressing with the Boston Celtics during the 2016-17 campaign, which saw Thomas put up a career-best 28.9 points per game, his numbers decreased significantly this past season following an extensive recovery from a hip injury.

The trend of one-year deals has become increasingly popular, as many free agents have chosen to bet on themselves in hopes to cash in during a big 2019 offseason where the salary cap will get a generous expansion, allowing teams to make lucrative offers.

This is a high-reward, low-risk gamble for the Nuggets, who aspire to reach the Western Conference playoffs this season. Second-year pro Jamal Murray started at point guard for them last season, scoring 16.7 points per game.
