Recently-crowned World's Ugliest Dog dies

All good dogs go to heaven.

The nine-year-old canine died in her sleep Tuesday morning, owner Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota told U.S. media.

Facebook Zsa Zsa, the World's Ugliest Dog, tragically passed away just days after winning her esteemed title, her devastated owner confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Zsa Zsa lived in a Missouri puppy mill for five years, before she was bought by a non-profit organization.

But Zsa Zsa's life was defined not by struggles, but by an effervescence nothing less than emotional philanthropy. "She's been staying over at my dad's house", Brainard said in the report. "I'm in shock still", she told CNN sister network HLN.

A sad day in the world of dogs. "It's probably going to be the same with her passing". "I picked Zsa Zsa up and took her outside and laid her down in the grass". "We were all saying our goodbyes". "It was sweet. She was waving at her", Brainard shared with TODAY.

Zsa Zsa's family drove about 30 hours to California last month to enter her in the Ugliest Dog pageant, where she beat out 13 competitors to take home the trophy and $1,500.

"She knew she was special", Brainard told the Today show.

Brainard and the rest of Zsa Zsa's family hosted a ceremony for her in their back yard to honor the pup. "She never really showed much excitement, but yes, she was definitely living it up after she won", Ms Brainard said.
