Nawaz Sharif to reach Lahore on July 13 to face jail

Sharif has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of eight million pounds has been slapped on him in the Avenfield reference case while his daughter was sentenced to seven years of jail and fined two million pounds by the accountability court.

Mushahidullah Khan, a senator with Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party, said that "workers from all across the country will reach the airport to welcome their leader" when Sharif lands in Pakistan.

Sharif along with Maryam had gone to London last month to see his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

The court also ordered the seizure of the Sharif family's four apartments at Avenfield House, a luxury building next to Hyde Park in London. Maryam was given a prison term for allegedly providing a forged trust deed, for which Safdar was a witness.

On Friday, the accountability court sentenced Sharif to 10 years in jail for owning assets beyond income and one year for not cooperating with the anti-corruption authority, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

"Let me make it clear that the law enforcement agencies will arrest Nawaz and Maryam at the airport to implement the court's order", he said. The NAB said in a statement that Safdar handed himself in. He was arrested yesterday after he dramatically resurfaced in the garrison city of Rawalpindi to lead a rally of supporters.

The accountability bureau is carrying out raids with the cooperation of the Mansehra police.

Safdar's name has been added to the blacklist; he now can not leave the country.

After the verdict on Friday, Safdar said "justice has been massacred" and railed against the judiciary.

Pakistan's military, which has ruled the nuclear-armed country for nearly half its history, denies involvement in civilian politics.

Three cases were filed against Sharif and his family in September past year following his disqualification by the Supreme Court on July 28, 2017 in the Panama Papers case. He denies drawing the monthly salary.
