Manchester City closing in on Mahrez after deal with Leicester City

A report claims that Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez will officially become a Manchester City player later this week after Leicester City accepted a £60m offer.

The Spaniard is plotting a £65 million swoop for the winger after narrowly missing out on the Algerian worldwide in the January transfer window.

The Leicester City star has been a huge hit since moving to England in 2014, and was an influential figure for the Foxes as they achieved the most unlikely of Premier League title wins in 2015/16.

Mahrez will represent another club record transfer for City, breaking the previous mark set when French defender Aymeric Laporte joined from Athletic Bilbao for £57m in January. That is fast approaching, with the winger due to return to the East Midlands next week after the club extended his holiday following recent internationals played by the north Africans.

The 27-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days, with all major aspects of the deal agreed between the two clubs.

Mahrez has not returned to training with Leicester after being granted extra leave, along with global team-mate Islam Slimani, due to Algeria's schedule later this summer.
