Klopp plays down latest Karius mistake

Jurgen Klopp has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is prepared to stand by Loris Karius as Liverpool FC's first choice goalkeeper next season.

The Germany worldwide, who also made two terrible mistakes in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, spilled Ollie Norburn's free-kick and Jonny Smith scored on the rebound.

"Yeah, it will probably happen for a while until he has a few fantastic games, that is how the situation is", said the manager.

"Until he has a few fantastic games you can not change [the criticism]".

"We can not change that". That's our part of the deal. Promise? You [the media] never ask again. "It is obvious, we don't have to hide it".

And Karius managed to spill the shot, allowing it to bounce in front of him rather than taking it cleanly.

'I saw this situation 500 times in my life the ball hits his chest but what can you do'. We can't make a story after each mistake.

"I don't like it, you don't like it, he doesn't like it, but they do happen".

He said: "No one likes that goal but, if we talk about that, then the second goal is Milly's [James Milner's] fault".

His performance has inevitably led to speculation that Liverpool FC could be set to look to bring in goalkeeping reinforcements this summer as they look to challenge for the title next season.

The 18-year-old opened the scoring after'just seven minutes at Prenton Park, sweeping a low finish home after being fed inside the box to get the Reds off the mark. "I would be really insane if I would not give these boys a chance - they are fantastic players, they've played fantastic games, so we will see what happens".

"The boys, we need them".
