Netflix is Launching a New Smart Download Feature

Netflix, a year and a half after rolling out the ability to download content for offline viewing on mobile devices, is now adding a feature that should have been there from the get-go: a new "Smart Downloads" that automatically deletes an episode of a TV series you've finished watching and fetches the next one. "We know how annoying it can be to go through all your apps and delete files you no longer need; we also understand that when it comes to Netflix, the faster you can get to the next episode you want to watch, the better".

Netflix is figuring out how to make TV work on your smartphone, where downloading a TV show can mean less room for selfies or devour your data plan.

Essentially, Netflix subscribers will now have increased control over their entertainment experience and the Smart Downloads feature is entirely optional to use.

Additionally, the feature is only available on Android devices for now, though it is safe to assume it will be landing on iOS in the foreseeable future.

New to Netflix this month is the latest season of Orange Is the New Black, a fresh batch of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Somebody Feed Phil: The Second Course, Shameless season 8, and more. The show, starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte, has all of its eight episodes now available to watch on the Netflix platform all over the world.

Smart Downloads deletes Season 1, Episode 1, and automatically downloads Season 1, Episode 4. The company has been fine-tuning its user interface to improve the process of discovering new shows, adding a "coming soon" feature to Android devices.
