He then came on as a substitute the next day, having missed the previous two games, as Leicester were beaten 5-1 away by Pep Guardiola's City, and featured in every match for the Foxes for the rest of the season.

Reports in the Liverpool Echo last week claimed that ex-Reds' defender Phil Thompson has urged his former club to sign the Leicester man following his scintillating tournament, and it now remains to be seen whether an advance will be made after the World Cup. "Over the past few years, he has established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting players".

Mahrez handed in a transfer request but stayed at the club, scoring 12 league goals in 36 games as the Foxes finished ninth in the Premier League. "Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is a flawless for me, and City's performances last season were outstanding", he said on the club's official website. He will be welcomed back to King Power Stadium as both an opposition player and a friend of the Club.
