Embattled EPA Chief Scott Pruitt Resigns--What's Next?

When she spotted Pruitt at Teaism Penn Quarter, Kristin Mink said she chose to confront the Trump appointee.

Scott Pruitt resigned as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday, and a top government watchdog released a simple but effective one-word statement on this development: "Good". Inhofe expressed his support for his former staffer on Thursday, calling Wheeler "the ideal choice" to serve as acting EPA administrator. He worked in the EPA under former President George H.W. Bush, spent years as a senior aide in the Senate working to defeat climate-related legislation and most recently was a lobbyist with many clients in the coal industry.

A former coal lobbyist will be the new acting head of the Environmental Protection Agency after former agency Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned on Thursday. According to his former biography on the state of Oklahoma's official website, Pruitt was a "leading advocate against the EPA's activist agenda".

Pruitt attended a July 4 picnic at the White House. "But we will absolutely keep up the pressure", Edwards said Monday in an interview with ThinkProgress.

The latest allegation comes amid other allegations over Pruitt's behavior.

"But in the era of Trump, the environment is just one of many pressing issues - along with Trump's "(throwing of) 32 million people off of health insurance", "racism", "policies of separating tiny children from their mothers" and "trying to destroy long-term alliances that we have with allies all over the world" - for Sanders.

Senator Inhofe, who dismisses global warming as a hoax and famously tossed a snowball on the Senate floor to prove his point, hailed Wheeler's ascension to EPA chief.

Wheeler is originally from Hamilton, Ohio, his biography on the EPA website said. Republicans and Democrats told the newspaper that Wheeler "has far more energy and environmental policy experience than Pruitt and has shown a willingness to forge compromises with the other party".

EFI's activities - and Wheeler's connections to the company - worry environmentalists, who aren't thrilled to see a former energy lobbyist take over as the nation's new top environmental cop.

And Chmielewski started out by making clear that he's still a supporter of President Trump's, telling Hayes "I'd go through a brick wall for the man today, including the vice president also". At his confirmation hearing in November 2017 to be deputy administrator of the EPA, Wheeler admitted that he viewed Murray's plan to roll back environmental regulations at the meeting with Perry.

While Wheeler did not lobby the EPA while he was under consideration for a job at the agency, his lobbying firm's colleagues did.

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) expressed concerns about Wheeler in April, calling him an "unabashed climate denier" but someone with "more friends than enemies in Washington". "He is, without question, a member of the coal industry's Hall of Fame", said Sen.

President Donald Trump announced Pruitt's departure Thursday, saying Pruitt had decided months of ethics scandals were distracting from the agency's work.
