'Drunk' seagulls have been confusing the RSPCA in Somerset

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has received a number of complaints about seemingly drunk seagulls vomiting and failing to walk straight around the beaches of Devon, Dorset and Somerset - and officials from the charity are pinning the blame on local breweries for getting them soused.

"Some of the birds have been found unconscious or staggering and all were reeking of alcohol". Animal welfare experts, think that the birds' inebriated state may be the result of feeding on brewery waste.

Speaking to Sky News a spokesperson for the RSPCA say the unusual cases have prompted concerns as they believe the scavengers could be getting intoxicated from brewing waste that is not properly sealed.

Daniel said: "We have had a number of these come through over the last couple of weeks".

'They looked awful. Some have been so poorly they've died. "Others have recovered after a day or so of rest and rehydration", he added. "It seems that they all swallowed some seed- possibly from the brewery - it seems that it made them drunk".

'But it's odd because enquiries revealed these by-products should only have trace amounts of alcohol left after it's extracted'. A crew of six firefighters was called to rescue a Seagull, which was very unstable on the roof, but when they arrived, she had already fallen and was sitting on the ground.

Watch manager Virgil Turner said: "When we arrived he had already fallen off the roof, he was sitting shaking his head and he then tried to fly and he almost hit me in the face". When I caught him he threw up all over me'.
