Playground will become a permanent game mode in Fortnite: Battle Royale

Fortnite developer Epic has announced the temporary closure of the game's sandbox mode, Playground, to take place on July 12. That's next Thursday, when Fortnite season 5 kicks off.

However, the good news is that Epic Games are busy preparing the next version of Fortnite Playground mode.

"We appreciate all of the awesome feedback we've received and are beginning work on the next version of Playground". That would enable 1v1 and 2v2 games, the ability to edit structures built by other players, traps that react properly to enemies and teammates, highlighting teammates on the map, and being able to do damage to enemy players with your pickaxe.

Epic said it hopes to deliver a "full creative mode" inside Fortnite someday, and Playground is the "first step" towards that.

"Thank you and let us know what else you'd love to see in a future version!" Epic has alluded to this possibility before when it expressed interest in making Playground a permanent part of the game, as opposed to the Limited-Time Mode that it is right now.

"My buddies and I had so much fun in Playground".

It's not all bad news, however, as Epic promises the mode will be back soon with a host of new improvements. Additionally, more loot is available to pilfer, allowing players to test their skills and explore gameplay possibilities without the pressure of enemy combatants.

But it looks like Playground is here to stay permanently, which will make a lot of fans very pleased considering it's incredible popularity.
