OnePlus : 5 and 5T now have Treble in a stable manner

Beyond Android Oreo's debut, it's been up to a manufacturer's discretion whether or not a phone that was upgrading to Oreo would be Treble compatible - there is more work involved, after all. The official Android 8.1 update for OnePlus 5 and 5T is ready after the success of the last OxygenOS Open Beta builds.

"Not only does the OxygenOS Open Beta roll out support for Project Treble in OnePlus 5/5T, there are UI enhancements and tweaks like the revamping of the System UI and OnePlus" weather app. As part of the feedback, the company has fixed compatibility issues with most third-party camera-based apps in its OnePlus 5 and 5T.

Treble, for those new to the project, essentially breaks Android further down into pieces that are updated independently. While the firm has done a pretty good job of supporting its handsets over the past year, the new release is important, mainly because it features support for Google's Project Treble. Both the features have been added by the company with the latest Open Beta update. The former is getting OxygenOS Open Beta 13, while the latter is being upgraded to OxygenOS Open Beta 11. Last year OnePlus said that their devices would not support Project Treble, but it seems that they have tripped over their stance.

"After several months of evaluation and hard work, we finally found a solution to make this possible, and we are very excited to share this good news with you", gushes OnePlus in the release notes for the OxygenOS open beta. Users who have registered for the same on their phones should find the new Open beta 13 and 11 in the settings of their respective devices. In addition, the new versions offer some other features and optimizations, including an updated and improved user interface.

Aforesaid, OnePlus also made some changes to the default Launcher app, which now comes with improved search tags in the app drawer, "New Installs" category tag in the app drawer and improved app list for hidden space and toolbox. The Weather app has also been improved, offering a new design that integrates the forecast into a single area. For users running on a stage build, make sure to read the instructions concerned with flashing the update manually before something goes wrong.
