Italdesign helps create Nissan GT-R50 for 50th anniversary

It's the first time the Japanese manufacturer and Italian design house have collaborated on a project, which celebrates the 50th anniversaries of both the GT-R and Italdesign.

From the sides you might notice the roofline is actually 54mm lower, creating a supercar-like profile. Best to just enjoy it for what it is, an incredible new take on the GT-R formula. The signature GT-R "samurai blade" cooling outlets behind the front wheels have gained more prominence with a gold inlay and extends from the bottom of the doors to the shoulder line. Outback, the taillights have been redesigned as a floating feature with hollow centers and thin ring shapes.

Throw in a large adjustable wing and 21-inch rims, and the GT-R50 prototype won't be confused with the stock vehicle any time soon.

Like all GT-Rs, this one is powered by Nissan's twin-turbo 3.8L V6 engine, but one that has been worked over by NISMO with some GT3 racing technology, like upsized turbos and intercoolers, heavy-duty connecting rods, pistons, crankshaft and bearings, revised camshafts, higher-capacity fuel injectors and optimized ignition intake and exhaust systems.

Italian design and engineering company Italdesign recently announced a unique Nissan GT-R to celebrate its 50th anniversary, which happens to coincide with that of the Nissan GT-R!

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Nissan GT-R, as well as Italdesign, the two brands collaborate on this epic iteration of the iconic sports vehicle. Italdesign developed, engineered, and built the vehicle. And the standard wheels have been replaced by some custom items that measure 21 inches, and spread 10 inches wide on the front and 10.5 inches on the rear. The prototype is based on the Nismo GT-R and will make its public debut next month, possibly at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. There's also a bigger power dome in the GT-R's prodigious bonnet, and you'll forgive Nissan for that excess when you learn what's beneath.

The chassis has also been tweaked through the addition of the Bilstein DampTronic I continuously adjustable damping system, connected to Brembo disc brakes with red six-piston front and four-piston rear callipers. The exterior color is Liquid Kinetic Gray with Sigma Gold Anniversary accents.

Inside, the gold theme continues with accents across the futuristic race-inspired dashboard, finished with a black Alcantara wrap and carbon fibre trim pieces. The steering wheel is bespoke and lots of Alcantara is used for the seats and other surfaces along with gold accents inside the vehicle. Michelin Pilot Super Sports finish off the handling upgrades. Over the past few years, Nissan's GT-R concepts haven't been too far from the production auto that followed - and the GT-R50 could continue the trend.
