Kate Spade's foundation to donate $1 million to mental health organizations

Kate Spade New York is honoring their company founder, the late Kate Spade, with a significant donation for mental health awareness.

On Wednesday, the brand tweeted that they're donating over $1 million, starting with $250,000 to the Crisis Text Line, a non-profit organization that provides free crisis intervention via text message. "The outpouring of love on social media and in our shops from customers of all ages has been overwhelming and moving, It is such a lovely reflection of how much Kate was loved". Officials said she hanged herself. "It is such a lovely reflection of how much Kate was loved".

She founded the company with her husband Andy Spade in 1993 and opened the company's first retail store in NY three years later.

Andy Spade said that despite her problems, her death was a complete shock.

Kate Spade New York also says it will host a Global Mental Health Awareness Day for employees as part of its Wellness Program.

The bran also encouraged people to make donations to the Crisis Text Line from June 20 through June 29 as they will match public donations up to the amount of 100,000 during that time period.

The company's donation comes a week after her brother-in-law David Spade donated $100,000 (£75,800) to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in the wake of his sister-in-law's tragic suicide earlier this month (Jun18).
