Raccoon that captivated internet is rescued safely in St. Paul

There is a live trap on the roof of the building with some very aromatic cat food they hope will lure the raccoon to safety.

Nearby Minnesota Public Radio, which followed its climb, branded it #mprraccoon.

The raccoon's ascent lasted a staggering 20 hours - Twitter celebrated the animal reaching the roof at 3 AM local time Wednesday morning, according to the BBC.

The critter was first spotted at the Town Square building in St. Paul, huddled in a nook above the sidewalk.

- A raccoon got itself into quite a predicament as it scaled a tower in St. Paul Minnesota.

The nimble little fella climbed 23 floors - about 60m - up the UBS Tower in Saint Paul, panicking thousands of onlookers who were following the situation on Twitter.

Onlookers and reporters tracked the raccoon's progress as it climbed the UBS Tower on Tuesday, interrupting work and causing anxiety for some. Workers in the office building, whose windows are sealed shut, anxious as the critter scuttled past their offices and rested on window ledges.

By about 10:30 p.m., the raccoon had decided on a change of scenery.

The raccoon rested on various window ledges during its daring climb (resulting in some awesome photos) and ultimately reached the building's roof this morning around 3 a.m. local time.
