MTV is making a live-action ‘Aeon Flux’ reboot

He'll be joined by executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, the veteran film and television producer, who serves as EP for The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead.

Aeon Flux takes place in the future, at a time when only two cities have survived a global disaster. Chung's distorted figures performing acrobatic stunts in skimpy leather outfits, freaky futuristic architecture, zero dialogue, and ending every short by killing the protagonist in some brutal way, was unlike anything that was on the air before or largely since, and, after Charlize Theron and director Karyn Kusama tried to make it a film franchise in 2005, the cartoon is coming back to live action. It paid off for them in a big way, as it's how they discovered Beavis And Butt-head, but it also worked with Peter Chung's Aeon Flux.

MTV has put into development a live-action reboot of the animated series that aired for three seasons on the network in the 1990s, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

It will be interesting to see if Aeon Flux can (finally) work in a live-action capacity, especially with the 2005 dud of a movie serving ignominiously as the only attempt. Animator Peter Chung created the original series. It wasn't until 1995 that a ten-episode half hour long animated series was released. As for the live-action movie, well, it wasn't quite the hit some were hoping for.

What do you think about the upcoming Aeon Flux return?

In 2005, Paramount Pictures, Lakeshore Entertainment, and Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures banner teamed for an Aeon Flux feature film. That film, which also starred Frances McDormand as Handler, Jonny Lee Miller as Oren Goodchild and Sophie Okenedo as Sithandra, earned just $25.8 million domestically and $52.3 million worldwide, from a $62 million budget.
