Microsoft drops official technical support for older products on community forums

The Redmond software behemoth announced on Friday that, come next month, its staff will no longer be combing the official forums for 13 outdated products to offer support advice and assistance.

As you can see all of the products mentioned are old with mainstream support already ended. Users are invited to participate in Microsoft Band 2 topic.

People can fix their issues by getting answers from other users.

Naturally, it makes sense that these products are discontinued as Microsoft no longer supports them regardless.

Coming to the hardware side, the company has announced that it will no longer offer forum support for the Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, Surface RT, and Surface 2.

The forums will remain available online and community members can still use the forums to post new topics or replies (with the exception of those that are locked in July 2018). But there will be "no proactive reviews, monitoring, answering, or answer marking of questions", Microsoft said. The support forums will continue to exist, being moderated continuously by Microsoft agents.

Microsoft Band - this topic will be locked. Nonetheless, as Windows 7 and 8.1 still enjoy vast saturation in the general public, one can only imagine this is Microsoft's way of telling the hangers-on to move or lose support. Extended support includes paid support and security updates at no additional cost only, and that is what Microsoft could have meant.

Every other action by Microsoft reminds us that, maybe, it's time to upgrade to their latest offering: Windows 10.

The forum is a hit and miss for support topics, mostly miss, in my opinion.
