Led joint bid wins right to host 2026 World Cup

Led joint bid wins right to host 2026 World Cup

The 2026 World Cup will look a whole lot different that previous iterations of the tournament, thanks to the fact that it will be hosted by three countries - the United States, Mexico and Canada - and expanded to 48 teams for the first time.

The "United Bid" won the vote 134-65 over Morocco during a special congressional meeting where every single member nation of Federation Internationale de Football Association, excluding the four potential host countries, cast a ballot.

Major League Soccer released the following statement: "The decision to host World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the United States is a testament to our three nations coming together for the United Bid, and a monumental step in our collective mission to further advance the game of soccer in North America".

The World Cup final will be played in New Jersey's Metlife Stadium, which holds around 85,000.

The North American victory suggests football officials are ready to gather for a World Cup in a country whose government has demonstrated its willingness to jail corrupt sports leaders through undercover investigations.

One has to think all three will receive an automatic pass into the tournament.

For Morocco, it was the fifth time it had bid for the hosting rights to the football World Cup, calling it "the dream of a nation".

Both bids were given a last chance to make their case with 15 minute presentations in front of congress, at the Moscow Expocentre, where the north Americans pledged their tournament would generate a $US11 billion dollar profit, while Morocco said theirs would make $US5 billion.

As nice as it is to travel and experience new countries, having the tournament come to our own backyard is a chance that simply can not be missed, especially considering it will be held in three separate countries for the first time in the history of the World Cup.

One of the most immediate and significant implications of Wednesday's result is that Canada's mens national team will play at a World Cup for the first time in nearly four decades, as all three host nations likely qualify automatically for the tournament. The United Bid is expecting to make more than half that in ticket revenue alone.

FIFA's hosting selection process was revamped in the wake of recent scandals enveloping the world governing body of soccer. They ended up at a refugee camp in Ghana, where Davies was born. Canada, for their part, has eight years to prepare a men's team worthy of their place at the party.

"The people of North America have always welcomed me". Mexico has played in every World Cup since 1990. "If given the opportunity, I know they will welcome you".

Morocco has been deemed "high risk" in the above factors - including transport, accommodations and stadiums - leading the United States to outscore them ahead of the June 13 bid.

Morocco also had the backing of most of Africa after a call from Ahmad Ahmad, the head of the Confederation of African Football to support its bid.

Morocco plans to use 14 stadiums, nine of which have yet to be built with the other five due for renovation.
