Jon Stewart Addresses Samantha Bee Controversy At Clusterfest

"Stewart wasn't buying the outrage from the right, implying that Bee shouldn't have apologized, and he suggested it was all calculated and part of the "'we're the real victims' game" conservatives play.

"I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night", Bee wrote.

As a Daily Show correspondent, Samantha Bee held the position while Stewart hosted the show longer than any other person, appearing in 332 episodes between 2003 and 2015.

At San Francisco's Clusterfest, Stewart said people should not bother apologizing in an effort to "make [conservatives] give up this "we're the real victims" game.'" Stewart and Bee used to work together on the "Daily Show".

Stewart does have a point in regards to Trump's and his followers' response to Bee's usage of the word "cunt".

Stewart said the controversy surrounding Bee represented a "game" and "strategy" from right-wing politicians at large.

Last week, Bee experienced major backlash after commenting on Ivanka's post of her with her son, which was seen as a bit tone-deaf due to the fact it was shared following the news that there were over 1,500 immigrant children that were being held by the government missing.

"Her executive producer, who was the one who allowed this joke to move forward and celebrated on Twitter [should also be suspended], and anyone on the staff who said that this was something that should go forward and put their stamp of approval on it", she added.

Stewart addressed Bee's controversy and apology first by addressing "liberals" at large. "There isn't. And so, create your own moral code to live by, but don't be fooled into trying to make concessions that you think will mollify them". "That is probably-he says that instead of 'please, ' I'm guessing".
