This will be your third major tournament but the first as Spain's first choice goalkeeper, are you approaching in the same way, or differently this time?

De Gea spoke about how hard it was to rectify the damage it had on his reputation with the Manchester United man still unsure why the accusations came out on the eve of a major tournament.

David De Gea has done little to ease the fears of Manchester United supporters with his latest comments when quizzed over whether or not he was still interested in a move to Real Madrid.

De Gea said: "I politely accepted his apology".

"It's also true that the majority of public people have disrespected me and haven't bothered to apologise to me in private".

As for his future, he noted that his plan is continue winning titles under Jose Mourinho, he said: "I have to win titles with United".

In Spain, we've grown accustomed to a high level of football and if the team doesn't win, it's seen as a fiasco.

I'm a quiet, peaceful guy and I'm not usually affected by things - personally, I wasn't too affected by it but I have family, people who are close to me and it's not right that they should be affected.

"It is water under the bridge and it came out that it was all a lie".

While appreciative of the personal apology, De Gea believes he should be given a public one.

De Gea heads into the World Cup on the back of a clean sheet in a 1-0 friendly victory over Tunisia.

During Spain's media day ahead of the 2018 World Cup, De Gea was once again probed about his future at Old Trafford.

Sometimes it's nearly as though we have a selective memory and tend to focus, not on Spain's performances in the last two tournaments but in three previous ones which we won.

"You have to be focused on having a good World Cup - we are all good".

'Football is football and a thousand things can happen.

"I always put my music on". It is important to be focused and be 100 per cent'. In fact, Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has reportedly admitted that Real Madrid have the best players in every position of the field. "But Portugal is not only Cristiano, they have a great national team, they won Euro 2016".

'We are very excited, there is a good team, a good group.

"We are all good".
