Arsenal table £17.6m offer for Leverkusen stopper Bernd Leno

Arsenal have agreed a £26.4m (€30m) deal to sign the Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira and were discussing personal terms with the Uruguayan's representatives in Milan on Tuesday.

Torreira is Arsenal's main central midfield target and they are hoping to reach an agreement on a deal for the Uruguay global, who has a €25 million release clause.

Ooh To Be A Gooner though hopes the player lives up to the hype, while Arsene has now found a reason to watch Uruguay's games in the World Cup.

Strengthening central midfield is a priority for the Gunners and the 22-year-old is seen as an ideal fit technically and at a reported £26m, would fall within their budget.

Reports in Italy have suggested Arsenal want to negotiate a deal in which they pay slightly more than the release clause but in instalments over several years.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed on his official website that Arsenal have tabled a bid worth £17.6million for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The second signing will very likely be another addition to the back line, Borussia Dortmund's Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Arsenal have seen two well known players leave the Emirates this summer, injury riddled midfielder Santi Cazorla, who served admirably with the team for six seasons and the retiring German worldwide Per Mertesacker.
