White House economic adviser Kudlow has heart attack

As President Trump was on his way to the historic summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un Monday, he tweeted stunning news about his economic advisor, Larry Kudlow. "He is now in Walter Reed Medical Center".

The White House didn't immediately comment on his condition.

Kudlow, 70, travelled with Trump for the G7 meeting over the weekend, and defended the president vigorously on television on Sunday.

Kudlow had joined Trump at the contentious G-7 at the end of last week. He previously worked as a host on CNBC, and before that as a banker and economic adviser in the Reagan administration.

The meeting was shadowed by the Trump administration's escalation of rhetoric on trade and tariffs and splintered shortly after the president left Quebec and tweeted he was pulling back his approval of a joint statement by the group.

"I have made it very clear to the President that it is not something we relish doing, but it something that we absolutely will do", Trudeau said.

Longtime economic commentator Larry Kudlow has stepped into the middle of a high-profile, worldwide controversy between President Donald J. Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Kudlow, a wry and upbeat speaker, has also adopted some of Trump's hard-line rhetoric while working inside the West Wing.

Mr. Kudlow is nominally in favour of free trade, but has backed Mr. Trump's nationalistic economic agenda, which has included steel and aluminium tariffs against Canada, Mexico and the European Union, as well as threats of further tariffs on autos. His recovery was a great source of pride for him and for his friends, contributing to his upbeat manner.
