Larry Kudlow had heart attack, Donald Trump says

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Jun 12) tweeted that his top economic advisor had suffered a heart attack. "He is now in Walter Reed Medical Center", Trump wrote on Twitter, just minutes before a historic summit meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The White House didn't immediately comment on his condition.

Kudlow, 70, joined the Trump administration as the director of the National Economic Council in March. As recently as Sunday, he had appeared on TV defending the president's attacks on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, saying that Trudeau had committed a "betrayal". In return, Trump called the Canadian leader "very dishonest" and "weak", and said the United States would not endorse a joint G7 communique.

Mr. Kudlow is nominally in favour of free trade, but has backed Mr. Trump's nationalistic economic agenda, which has included steel and aluminium tariffs against Canada, Mexico and the European Union, as well as threats of further tariffs on autos. He was a CNBC contributor before returning to the White House this year.
