Kim Jong Un goes for surprise nighttime walk ahead of summit

Kim Jong Un goes for surprise nighttime walk ahead of summit

Turns out, North Korea's Dear Leader is not staying at the Fullerton Hotel as initially posited by The Washington Post.

Just six months after trading threats about their respective "nuclear buttons", President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un are set to meet in Singapore on Tuesday morning (Monday night in the USA, which is 12 hours behind). But Trump and Kim will meet away from the bustling financial hub of the city, at The Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island.

A Trump administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the US side was entering the talks with a sense of optimism and an equal dose of skepticism given North Korea's long history of developing nuclear weapons.

- Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un are ready to shake hands, sit down face-to-face what exactly? Then aides to each were to come in for more discussions and a working lunch.

It is believed that Trump and Kim will begin with a two-hour one-on-one session with translators, before an expanded meeting that includes advisers.

So you can only imagine how much Singapore is paying to have the North Korean leader and an entire army of bodyguards and government officials at the St. Regis. Trump has also raised the possibility of further summits and an agreement ending the Korean War by replacing the armistice signed in 1953 with a peace treaty.

"The discussions between the United States and North Korea are ongoing and have moved more quickly than expected", the White House said in a statement.

Trump made the comments sitting next to Kim minutes after the two leaders shook hands for the first time, images that were broadcast worldwide. North Korea also wants an end to what it considers America's "hostile policy" and a security guarantee that the US will not seek to remove the regime. Traffic was held up in the steamy midday sun and scores of bystanders were penned in by police when Trump went to meet Lee.

"I think things could work out very nicely", Trump said in a Tuesday meeting with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

It's unclear what Trump and Kim might decide Tuesday.

Choe, a vice foreign minister, is the highest-level female diplomat in North Korea.

Success in Singapore would see Kim making a bold decision to exchange his nukes for economic support and security assurances, according to Ryan Haas, an Asia expert at the John L Thornton China Center.
