Alisson, on his future

Alisson, on his future

Liverpool had been hoping that they could swoop in before the start of the tournament in Russian Federation and confirm the arrival of a new goalkeeper, a position which is in dire need of improvement after Loris Karius' performance in the Champions League final.

The Reds want to sign Alisson this summer but it seems Roma are determined to retain his services, throwing Liverpool's chances into doubt.

Former Brazil goalkeeper Claudio Taffarel believes that Liverpool target Alisson can become as good as Thibaut Courtois and David de Gea.

"To be honest, I left everything in the hands of my agents".

"There are options that we are working on, together with Roma and with respect for my club", he told Globoesporte.

You'd imagine the clubs want the same, given what an impressive World Cup can do to a player's valuation.

Alisson's performances this season have made him one of the most in-demand goalkeepers in Europe, something which will only increase further following the World Cup where he is expected to start for Brazil ahead of Manchester City's Ederson. "We'll see if something happens during this week".

Liverpool continue to be heavily linked with a summer swoop for Alisson, but the Brazil global is "very happy at Roma", according to his worldwide predecessor Claudio Taffarel. "I'd say his greatest strength, other than his technical ability, is that he's very relaxed, very intelligent with the way he plays - he's mentally very strong", Taffarel told Italy's Radio Stereo.
