Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Danny Kirwan dies at age 68

Danny Kirwan, one of the guitarist's of the late '60s, '70s and '80s supergroup Fleetwood Mac, has died at the age of 68.

In the years to follow, the band's founder, Mick Fleetwood, sought the help of the Missing Person Bureau to find Kirwan, claiming he last saw the guitarist in 1980.

His cause of death has not been revealed.

"Thank, Danny Kirwan. You will forever be missed!" He wrote: "Danny was a huge force in our early years. His love for the Blues led him to being asked to join Fleetwood Mac in 1968, where he made his musical home for many years", Friday's social-media post said.

He recorded a total of five albums with them, Then Play On (1969), Blues Jam at Chess (1969), Kiln House (1970), Future Games (1971) and Bare Trees (1972). Danny was presented with the honor along with seven other members of Fleetwood Mac, including Mick, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Peter Green, John McVie, Christine McVie and Jeremy Spencer. Kirwan continued, stating that his legacy would live on in Fleetwood Mac's music.

Kirwan was born in the South London neighborhood of Brixton on May 13, 1950. Kirwan was 68, and is thought to have suffered with mental health issues sporadically in later years.

Kirwan joined following the release of the band's second album, Mr Wonderful, with his first appearance on the No 1 single Albatross. Green. He wrote half of the tracks on the band's 1972 album, "Bare Trees". Though the album failed to chart in the United Kingdom, it reached #70 in the U.S. Five of the album's 10 songs - including the title track - were written by Kirwan.

Further details about Kirwan's death have not been released.

Kirwan was sacked by Fleetwood, who became acting manager in the band, in 1972 due to continued confrontations regarding his alcoholism.
