Once a dispensary is awarded a certificate of operation, it can begin to sell medical marijuana to OH patients and caregivers in accordance with OH laws and rules.

Prospective dispensaries had to adhere to a set of regulatory requirements to be eligible for consideration, including setting up shop at least 500 feet from any existing school, church, public library, public playground, public park, or community addiction-services provider.

The Sylvania Avenue location in Toledo will be operated by GTI Ohio LLC, which runs dispensaries and manufacturing facilities in five states. They may sell only to patients with recommendations from state-certified physicians.

The Ohio Board of Pharmacy didn't give an explanation as to why the company was disqualified. "But you will absolutely not have 60 dispensaries open on September 8 as the state planned, and I think the state's aware of this and they're going to be willing to grant extensions, as long as they know that these license holders are moving forward with their plans".

OH has selected 12 large growers and 12 small growers to participate in its medical marijuana program, including Ascension BioMedical LLC in Oberlin and Farkas Farms LLC in Grafton.
