Rep. Don Bacon awaits challenge from Democratic opponent

Democrats were excited that Ashford, a moderate Republican-turned-Democrat who lost by just one point last fall, would give Bacon a tough challenge.

Eastman's victory early Wednesday over former Democratic Rep. Brad Ashford followed a long campaign in which Eastman billed herself as a progressive political newcomer.

In 2015, Ashford upset eight-term Republican Congressman Lee Terry, and served one two-year term, only to then be defeated by Bacon with a margin of less than 4,000 votes.

Eastman will take on Don Bacon who acknowledged the Second Congressional District has become one of the more competitive races in the country - bouncing between a Republican and Democrat victor since 2014.
