Mandela Cup: Sundowns deny Messi, Dembele Suarez shine

The Spanish champions will face their South African counterparts in a post season friendly match, dubbed the Mandela Centenary Cup, on Wedneday at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg from 7pm East African time. They were received by top officials of Sundowns and scores of football fans who thronged the airport to catch a glimpse of their football idols. He was the country's first head of state elected in a fully representative democratic election and played a prominent role in the fight against apartheid.

Barcelona take on Mamelodi Sundowns in a friendly clash as part of the events to commemorate what would have been Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday.

He died in December 2013 at 95, and Barcelona wore black armbands during a Copa del Rey game against Cartagena in his memory.

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Tiyani Mabunda says his mission tonight is to make the club's fans happy, not swap jerseys with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi. Leaders from across the world were in South Africa for his funeral. Their final game is at home to Real Sociedad on May 20. The Catalans will hope to bounce back from their 5-4 defeat to Levante last weekend which ended their unbeaten La Liga streak this season.
