High court ruling permits sports betting in all states

In July 2017, Gov. Dannel Malloy signed a bill that will allow the state to move quickly if the federal sports betting ban is overturned by the Supreme Court or repealed by Congress. Why doesn't tThe Sun ever think the state government should have no say in sports betting except to eliminate the laws making it illegal?

Webis said Wednesday that while the ruling will not have an immediate impact on revenue levels until individual state legalisation is in place, the announcement is regarded as a boost for the company's U.S. operations.

"We are very excited about the likely legalization of sports wagering in the United States".

Evangelical leaders are expressing their opposition to a United States Supreme Court decision led by conservative justices that struck down a federal law stopping states from legalizing sports gambling. We have always believed that sports wagering would eventually come out of the shadows. AGA President Geoff Freeman described the high court's opinion as "a victory for the millions of Americans who seek to bet on sports in a safe and regulated manner".

Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the 6-3 majority that a federal law barring state governments from authorizing sports gambling is unconstitutional under the "anti-commandeering doctrine", which holds that Congress may not tell state governments what they can not do. "PASPA is not", Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the court. That provision unequivocally dictates what a state legislature may and may not do.
