Governor invites BJP to form government in Karnataka, take oath on Thursday

JD (S) on the other hand has performed really well in the election. The counting of 222 constituency seats has been completed.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Kumaraswamy claimed the BJP had offered his MLAs Rs 100 crore and ministerial berths to break ranks and back the saffron party.

The BJP had emerged as the frontrunner in the elections grabbing 104 seats. The Janata Dal (Secular) got 38 seats, which is two seats less than its last election tally. BJP is trying hard to get them. "Calling upon the single largest party is at the end of the line when it comes to discretion of the governor", said Singhvi. The Supreme Court said that it can't overturn the decision of the Governor without seeing on what basis the BJP had claimed to have the numbers. This is the kind of politics JD-S and Congress do. Had it been so, we would have had a clear mandate, either for the BJP or the Congress. We bow our heads to the verdict.

" While BJP banks on Guv Vala, Congress on Kumaraswamy " Yeddyurappa hopes to battle it out in the Assembly. They have accepted our offer. "Everyone is Siddaramaiah. We are part of thr Congress, we are together", he said.

"We have extended our support to the JD-S to form the new government, with its state leader H.D. Kumaraswamy as chief minister".

In a roller-coaster ride for BJP, it initially appeared that the party was set to return to power after a five-year hiatus with a resounding majority.

"We are going to secure 120-plus seats", Mr Siddaramaiah told BBC Hindi's Imran Qureshi before the poll.

The BJP cried foul and said it was the single largest party and had the right to be called first to form the government. "He chose to serve his masters in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rather then serve the Constitution", tweeted Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala", he said. Amit Shah is likely to be in Bengaluru and address the newly elected MLAs at the legislature party meeting on Wednesday. As per reports, BJP leaders are seeking out the Governor to grant them a week's time to prove their majority in the house.

"I invite you (Yeddyurappa) to form the government and be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka", a communique from Raj Bhavan said. As uncertainty looms large, the allegations of "horse-trading" MLAs' have been made from all the three parties.

Mayawati also tied up with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party and backed its candidate in Gorakhpur Lok Sabha by-election in which they managed to defeat the BJP in its chief minister Yogi Adityanath's home turf.

"Our majority is established". If Congress wins the remaining four, the combine will have 115 seats, enough for a majority. "We ask Shri Amit Shah and Shri Narendra Modi if two parties can not come together in a post-poll alliance, how did you form the government in Goa, Meghalaya and Manipur", he added.
