You Were Right for Thinking Shenmue 3 Wasn't Releasing in 2018

The development cycle for Shenmue 3 has been slow going, with the game originally set to launch at the end 2017. The campaign toppled its goal of $2 million (eventually reaching a Kickstarter video game record of $6.3 million), but was delayed into the second half of 2018.

Yu Suzuki then chimed in on the game's Kickstarter page, saying "To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay".

Over the years, Shenmue fans have proven they're nothing if not patient.

The extra time will be used to "polish the quality of the game even further" to be able to meet the standards and expectations of the fans.

Deep Silver, the company publishing Shenmue III, recently announced that the sequel will not be coming out this year.

This is a bit of a setback considering that the game has been in and out of development over the last decade.

A release date wasn't given and likely won't be revealed until the beginning of next year. If there's an upside to this announcement, it's that we might see more from the game at E3 next month, so if you're looking forward the game, keep an eye out for a possible appearance. "Deep Silver today announce that their upcoming release Shenmue III has been moved and will now release in 2019", the announcement reads.

Shenmue III is scheduled for release on PS4 and PC in 2019.

Shenmue III is now in development for the PS4 and PC. Creator Yu Suzuki also apologized for the delay, promising "to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue 3".
