CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH- As the unofficial start of summer, the Memorial Day holiday weekend kicks off a busy time for Americans.

With summer rapidly approaching and area schools releasing students for summer vacation, the RPD are frequent participants in a seat belt "Click it or Ticket" campaigns.

"Buckling up is a simple task that can keep you and your family safe in the vehicle", said Officer Tim Bales of the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit, in a news release. "Through continued enforcement and education, we hope to see more people taking the simple step of buckling up and fewer fatal crashes on Pennsylvania's roads".

Law enforcement will be cracking down on Click It or Ticket violators around the clock. This should be automatic.

The Governor's Highway Safety Program's 2017 annual Seat Belt Survey reported that 91.4 percent of front seat drivers and passengers wear their seat belt. At night from 6 p.m.to 5:59 a.m., that number soared to 56 percent of those killed. That is why one focus of the Click It or Ticket campaign will be nighttime enforcement. The front seat belt usage rate in New Jersey now stands at 94.07 percent. If a driver is stopped by an officer and occupants aren't wearing the proper restraints the seatbelt laws will be strictly enforced.

"If you know a friend or a family member who does not buckle up when they drive, please ask them to consider changing their habits", Bales said. "Seat belts save lives, and everyone - front seat and back, child and adult - needs to do not forget to buckle up - every trip, every time".
