Xiaomi Redmi S2 To Launch In India On June 7th

Indian smartphone market is expected to continue to show double digit growth in 2018, on the back of popularity of budget phones and vendors increasing their focus to make phones as well as high value components locally despite pressure on margins, said analysts at International Data Corporation (IDC) India.

This way, they have successfully beaten Samsung, which was the #1 smartphone brand previous year.

In its teaser, the Twitter handle for Redmi India has posted a small video with the following message, "Every step in your life is defined by a selfie". The Chinese tech giant is yet to divulge any details about the device but is marketing it as the smartphone "with best selfie camera".

Xiaomi is marketing the device as a selfie-focused phone. The selfie-cam is coupled with an LED flash and also offers support for AI portrait mode as well as an AI beauty mode. For optics, there's a rear dual camera setup which includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with PDAF and f/2.2 aperture along with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor.

Coming to the specifications, Xiaomi Redmi S2 will sports a 5.99-inch HD+ (1440 × 720 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 70.8 per cent NTSC color gamut and 450 nits Brightness. It is powered by a 2GHz Octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Processor with 3GB/4GB RAM. Well, the upper variant can have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of Internal Storage.

Whether it's possible to catch up with the best in the market right now - Huawei has had to put incredible resource into getting its camera division up to the level of its rivals, for instance - remains to be seen, but more competition in this area is always welcomed.
