Watch an iPhone explode and burst into flames on video

He has seen a phone explode before but "It takes a lot for it to explode".

That changes now, as ABC News has obtained footage of this happening in a store in Las Vegas, although it's not clear if it happened at an official outlet or a third-party fix shop. Lithium ion batteries are prone to combust if they're damaged or defective.

Especially in Las Vegas, where the temperatures often rise well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (about 38 degrees Celsius) in Summer, Tartaglio recommended that people keep their smart phones out of direct sunlight to avoid issues that may result from batteries overheating. That heat may be what caused the battery to burst.

"Over time the batteries heat up and bloat", Tartaglio said. You can see the employee stand and gawk at the flames for a bit, run to the back of the store, then run back to the front and grab another phone to call 911. The employee quickly jumped up as the phone burned itself out after a few seconds.

The phone was reportedly brought to the store to replace the screen which had cracked after its battery has expanded.
