Microsoft announces the Surface Hub 2

Microsoft has unveiled a second generation Surface Hub featuring a 4K+ 50.5-inch multi-touch display powered by Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Whiteboard, Office 365, Windows 10 and the intelligent cloud.

New Surface Hub comes with four flagship features and easier setup.

Microsoft is taking the wraps off the next-gen Surface Hub, the Surface Hub 2.

"We are still building the device", said Robin Seiler, General Manager of Hardware Engineering for Surface Hub, in a conversation I had with her yesterday.

The updated software is also designed with Microsoft's Fluent Design, so it already looks much better than the original Surface Hub's software. The Surface Hub 2 has built-in 4K cameras that rotate with the device, integrated speakers, far field mic arrays, and a 3×2 aspect ratio.

But the interesting thing with the Surface Hub 2 is that multiple displays can be connected together to make a single wall of slick screens, thanks to a removable webcam. It will allow businesses to get more mileage out of their Surface Hub 2 for sure. Seeing four of the lovely Surface Hub 2s lined up together has undeniable visual effect and will have a profound impact on what groups can accomplish together, allowing users to display multiple pieces of content side-by-side. When I asked Seiler if users would be able to do this kind of cross-device content sharing with Surface Hub 2, she would only say "you can manipulate content from a variety of devices". The company has this time added more robust collaborative tools which can allow multiple users to simply sign in simultaneously through a fingerprint reader and pull up their work onto a single workspace. Microsoft says it has sold over 5000 of the original Surface Hub across 24 markets and believes the more affordable Surface Hub 2 will be an even bigger success. The device, Microsoft said, is emblematic of the modern workplace, where people are more mobile and spread out and companies need better ways to communicate and collaborate.

It is worth to take a note that the new Surface Hub 2 will be available for purchases in 2019 albeit the product will be tested with some selected commercial customers in this year.
