Medical Passed, Rangers Ready to Complete Signing of Premier League Midfielder

Rangers have completed the signing of Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield on a four-year contract.

This season, Arfield scored in the shock 3 - 2 opening day win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but has found his opportunities limited. Proven in the Premier League, English Championship as well as the SPL from his Falkirk days, Arfield is a battle-hardened competitor who won't wilt in the heat of Old Firm battles, as so many have done in recent matches against Celtic.

And the early signs are that Rangers chairman Dave King, who has been criticised heavily be supporters for a perceived lack of investment and ambition, is indeed willing to back Gerrard in his first transfer window as a coach.

He spent five successful seasons there - three of which were in the Premier League - and played a part in helping the Clarets qualify for Europe for the first time in 51 years.

Capped 12 times by Canada at full global, it seemed Arfield would represent his country of birth after representing Scotland as an Under-19, Under-21, and B worldwide.

Gerrard added: "It's pleasing also that we have been able to start our rebuilding process so quickly after the end of the season".

"Scott is the first one in and I look forward to working with him and the others who will be coming in to strengthen the squad".

"When a club of this magnitude comes in for you it is a no brainer", said Arfield in the statement.

"I'm excited to work with Steven Gerrard - if you don't get excited by that you shouldn't walk through the front door". It has given a boost to the whole game in this country.
