Brazil name squad for 2018 World Cup

Brazil have named injured Paris St-Germain forward Neymar in their 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Neymar should be able to "regain match fitness" when he takes part in friendlies against Croatia on June 3 and Austria on June 10, Lasmar said.

"Dani is a great player and leader and we are going to miss him, but we have other options", Tite said. The poster boy of Brazilian football who plies his trade for PSG is now recuperating from a broken metatarsal injury he suffered in March, and the football-crazy nation of Brazil will be hoping their dribbling wizard would be fit enough to inspire the Samba boys in Russian Federation.

"We will be much stronger with Neymar doing well, but for him to do well the rest of the team has to be well, too", he said.

He has been replaced by Manchester City right-back Danilo, while Neymar recovered in time to be named in Tite's selection.

After sweeping aside South American opponents in the World Cup qualifiers, Brazil are seen as one of the favourites at the World Cup.

PSG right-back Dani Alves was last week ruled out because of a knee injury.

Likewise, Brazil's coaching staff is mulling over whether to use Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho on the left or in a central midfield role.

Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino is also included alongside Chelsea's Willian.

"At first, Gabriel Jesus is our starter". Tite said he needs "a pacemaker" in the team, which he has not received from Beijing Guoan's Renato Augusto.

The five-time World Cup champions have been drawn in Group E, where they will face Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia, and many expect them to go far in Russian Federation.
