The most noticeable feature of the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster is the lack of GT R styled bodywork. It has four two-door coupes, three four-door coupes, two customer race cars, and two roadsters.

"With the AMG GT S Roadster, our AMG GT family has gained another exceptionally sporty member that combines high driving dynamics with an emotional open-air experience", says Tobias Moers, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Despite being a convertible, the GT S Roadster is still a serious sports auto. The new GT S Roadster sits in between the standard GT Roadster and the 550-hp GT C Roadster.

That's right, there are now a dozen AMG GT sports cars, and like the two other GT Roadster models, the GT S Roadster boasts a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.

The market launch for the new Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster starts from July 2018, and orders can be placed immediately. That's enough to allow the AMG GT S Roadster to cover the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 308 km/h (191 mph) - pretty close to the AMG GT C Roadster's 3.7 seconds and 316 km/h. This gives it 469 horsepower in the standard package and 465 pounds-feet of torque, or buyers can opt for the C version with additional grunt-515 horsepower and 494 pounds-feet of torque.

It doesn't gain the rear axle steering the GT C has as standard, though it can be optioned at extra cost - it also comes with the "Dynamic Plus" pack, available to add features such as dynamic engine and transmission mounts and stiffer sports suspension. The vehicle also comes standard with an electronically controlled locking differential at the rear axle, which is integrated with the rear-mounted transmission. While the AMG Silver Chrome Interior package is available as standard, owners can also opt for the carbon fibre or high gloss black trims for the AMG trim elements. Expect to see a price tag of around $310,000 before on-road costs.
