Boy, 13, fatally shoots 11-year-old brother in Ohio, police say

The 11-year-old died in hospital.

The family friend did not immediately realize the boy had been shot when she called authorities to report the injury, according to a recording of the call released Tuesday by the Streetsboro Police Department.

"Something bad has happened", she said. Emergency services arrived to the scene and rushed the young boy to UH Ravenna where he was pronounced dead. They also recovered a handgun, police said.

Police then took the victim's 13-year-old brother was taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated murder for what they said appears to be a "premeditated shooting". He gave no additional information about the exchange.

A 13-year-old Streetsboro boy who is accused of shooting and killing his 11-year-old brother appeared in Portage County Juvenile Court for the first time Wednesday.

Police say the gun found at the home was a.357 Magnum.

The 11-year-old was a fifth grade student in the Streetsboro School District.

It was a particularly shocking crime for the quiet town of Streetsboro, which had its last recorded homicide in 1999, the Record-Courier reported.
