Semi drivers stop man from jumping off MI overpass

The situation came to a peaceful conclusion when the man made a decision to walk off the bridge after several hours of negotiations with police. It provides free and confidential emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A group of semi drivers in MI helped authorities save a man who was threatening to harm himself early Tuesday, according to a news report.

That's when police began asking semi-truck drivers to pull under the bridge to shorten the man's fall, should he jump, according to WJBK.

"We were able to do that with him today", he said. Lt. Mike Shaw says they started this 23 years ago. Semi trucks lined up as close as possible on both sides of the interstate.

"Usually when we talk to people that are involved in these type of incidents", Shaw said, "usually there's a trigger". The man chose to willingly leave the bridge and police took him to a nearby hospital for evaluation, according to Fox2.

"You can also call a loved one, member of the clergy or 911".

Harrison said he just happened to be driving one of the trucks near the front after state police stopped traffic and the east and west side of the freeway while they were dealing with the would-be jumper.
