George RR Martin has news on two Game of Thrones books

However, Martin did reveal something fans can look forward to.

The book will feature 75 black & white illustrations by artist Doug Wheatley, Martin writes.

While Martin never put a precise launch date on The Winds of Winter, there was a hope that at least one more book would be out before the end of Game of Thrones. "You're going to have to keep waiting for THE WINDS OF WINTER".

You will, however, be able to return to Westeros this year, as I suggested back over on Live Journal.

Bantam Spectra and HarperCollins Voyager will release the Fire & Blood hardcover on November 20. "This is not a traditional narrative and was never meant to be ... let's call this one 'imaginary history" instead. The essential point being the "history" part. Within it fans will find information on all of the Targaryen kings starting with Aegon I...and this is just the first volume of the history books.

This means that fans who enjoy jumping into the minutia of Martin's world of Westeros, Essos, and Sothoryos will have plenty to occupy them until The Winds of Winter is finished and published.

Fans have been rightfully frustrated with the constant delays to the followup of 2011's A Dance with Dragons. It will arrive in bookstores before the next, and final, season of the "Game of Thrones" television series, which is scheduled to run on HBO in 2019.

Since he's been preoccupied with Fire and Blood (and assisting with HBO's numerous Game of Thrones prequels, and sadly watching New York Jets games, and a million other projects), Martin confirmed that the wait for the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter, will continue. And for all fans wondering, the author confirms it does have dragons, lots of dragons. The first of two books, it delves into the reign of seven Targaryen kings and queens, including Aegon the Conquerer, the first Targaryen to sit on the Iron Throne and the ancestor of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Here's to 2019, which is also when Game of Thrones returns.
