Sheriff: 1 injured, suspect in custody in Florida school shooting

Chris Oliver said his 16-year-old son, a student at the school, told him the shooting happened near his classroom.

It's not yet known if the shooting was intentional.

A robocall to students indicated that the student who was shot was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. ABC affiliate WFTV 9 reports Forest High School is on lockdown. It's believed they were shot in the ankle, according to school officials.

The shooting at a public high school prompted panic in the city of almost 60,000 people.

A student has fired a gun at his school - Forest High in Ocala, Florida - and left a classmate injured.

The injured person was being treated by paramedics, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post Friday morning. One person was injured and a suspect has been arrested.

"Right now deputies have responded to a shooting at Forest High School".

Students at thousands of U.S. schools were due to walk out today in memory of the attack - as part of the National School Walkout against gun violence.

Citizens are asked to avoid the area. "Parents please stand by for further direction from the school on how to pick up your children".
