West Ham's Moyes surprised at keeper Hart's costly error

The West Ham keeper would have been desperate to impress once again ahead of the World Cup, with England manager Gareth Southgate watching from the stands, but he produced a major error which led to Stoke scoring after 79 minutes.

The Hammers have dragged themselves away from the bottom three with four points in their last two games, but Stoke are very much still in the doldrums after four straight defeats, leaving them 19th.

That's the view of BBC pundit Chris Sutton who saw West Ham goalie Hart spill a Xherdan Shaqiri shot to allow Peter Crouch a tap-in.

"For the team, for us, at the time it was hard because it meant we had to go and look to change after we had been the dominant team, apart from the first five or 10 minutes of the second half".

"I believe we can do it, I honestly do".

"You feel for Joe Hart after what was a good display at Chelsea - he kept West Ham in the game", said Sutton.

The game was turned on its head with the hosts equalising with two minutes of second-half stoppage time remaining from another player coming off the bench in Andy Carroll, who volleyed home Cresswell's cross for a crucial point. I didn't go over the top because I expect him to do that. We've had some really good games and we've just been really unfortunate with Lady Luck.

"I was concerned, because I'd seen him play for Stoke sometimes and I didn't think he did all the running back defensively", Moyes added. I think the important thing was to make sure we didn't lose tonight.

"I'm keeping my target high and I'm hoping to win ten games".

"That's why we had to find something which meant that maybe he wasn't quite as exposed to having to double-up, help the full-back out", Moyes said.

Ramadan Sobhi drew a comfortable save out of Joe Hart on three minutes with a left-footed shot from 18 yards out after receiving a square pass from Mame Biram Diouf, while at the other end Ryan Shawcross deflected Marko Arnautovic's angled strike behind at the near post three minutes later.
