Unnao rape case: CBI registers case against fourth accused

With the Unnao rape victim recording a fresh statement before a magistrate in Lucknow on Monday, the probing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is considering to withdraw sections of the POCSO Act invoked against raoe accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Hence, the CBI team will now move court to seek permission for conducting narco and polygraph test.

The victim tried to set herself ablaze outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence on April 8, claiming inaction in the rape case that took place in 2017. According to sources, the CBI has urged the court to grant 14-day remand for the accused, which was not opposed by Sengar's lawyer. An FIR was lodged against the BJP MLA on Thursday under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (abduction of woman), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A CBI official, who is involved in investigating the Unna rape and murder case, however, told the DNA that they have already got a thorough medical check-up of the victim done. The case was filed against Shubham Singh, son of Shashi Singh, reports ANI.

"Yesterday (Saturday), they went there in two cars and threatened them to keep quiet or leave the village".

Last week, Sengar was taken into a seven-day police custody after a marathon 17-hour interrogation.

Earlier this week, the Unnao case took a decisive turn, after the Allahabad High Court took cognisance of the case and berated the state government for not taking stern action against the accused, who had been roaming free till then.

In a complaint to the Uttar Pradesh Police, the victim's mother alleged that the Shashi stood guard outside the room where Sengar's raped her daughter. Sources have reported that Shashi Singh is a close aide to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kuldeep Singh Sengar who was sent to 4 days police custody.

The first FIR, of rape, names Sengar and Sashi Singh.
