Storm system likely spewed 11 tornadoes in Arkansas, agency reports

A tornado warning for Mecklenburg and Gaston counties in North Carolina and York County in SC ended at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, but severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for the Charlotte region, including those counties, until 4:15 p.m., the National Weather Service said. Damage was not catastrophic in any community and the wind speeds were on the lower end for tornadoes, but the twisters blew debris onto county roads, damaged some buildings and left some people white-knuckle driving.

According to a post-survey report issued by the weather service, two dogs in that neighborhood were "either displaced or lofted over 100 yards when their respective pens were destroyed".

A survey team from the National Weather Service in Blacksburg investigated that damage to determine the wind speeds within the tornado and the length of its track, but had yet to issue a final report as of Monday evening.

OPPELO, Ark. - The National Weather Service in Little Rock confirmed a tornado caused damage in Oppelo.

"Here dozens of homes were badly damaged, some almost completely, and many large pine trees were snapped off and left with no branches". But, as the storm moved over them, they did record a 67mph wind gust.

The Ashley County tornadoes didn't create much damage in residential areas.

Rain is expected early Monday, but skies should clear up as the day goes, according to the National Weather Service.

Guilford County Schools Superintendent Sharon Contreras told news reporters that classes would be canceled Tuesday because of the storm.

It damaged a mobile home park and snapped dozens of trees.

The storms also killed a one-year-old girl when a tree fell on a recreational vehicle where she was sleeping, the sheriff's office in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, said.

In Amherst County, it crossed Virginia 130 into Elon and its wind speed strengthened to an estimated 130 miles per hour.
